Kaikoura Adventure Race

The Kaikōura Adventure Race is a traditional adventure race combining multiple disciplines including trekking, mountain biking and navigation into a complete journey. Team members race together and the courses are designed to challenge the strongest teams while still being achievable for all levels of fitness and abilities.

Four events are available for adult, school and family teams of 2 to 4 members:

  • 3 hours;
  • 6 hours;
  • 12 hours (adult and school teams only); and
  • 24 hours (adult teams only).

The 24-hour event includes packrafting as well as the other disciplines.

Date: Friday 10th and Saturday 11th April 2026.
Start Time: 9pm on Friday for the 24-hour race (briefing at 5.30pm). 7.30am on Saturday for the 12-hour race, 9am for the 6-hour race and 11.30am for the 3-hour race. Briefings for the 3, 6 and 12-hour events will be held on Friday evening.
Location: Secret location in the Kaikōura District.
Cost:

  • Adult teams: Starting from $156 per person (18 years +) for the 3-hour event;
  • School teams: Starting from $79 per child (10 years +) for the 3-hour event;
  • Family teams: Add up the cost for the team members. Teams must have at least one adult (over 18) and any number of school aged students.

Children 10 years and under must be accompanied by a parent.
