Hear University of Otago Professor Katherine Black reflect on her research into sports and what the body is capable of. Her PhD was in fluid balance of Paralympic athletes where she got to work with Wheelchair rugby and basketball.
After arriving in New Zealand from the United Kingdom, Katherine continued her work within elite sport and has conducted nutrition research with Super Rugby, National Rugby League (NRL) and rugby 7s teams among others. This research has led to real world changes for these teams and sports.
Her work now mainly focuses on active females and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport, a widespread problem with multiple negative health effects as well as fighting back against the misinformation targeting active women promoted online.
