About UsAbout Us

The Active Canterbury website is an initiative of the Canterbury Physical Activity and Nutrition Group (CIPANG). The group's goal is to work collectively and collaboratively to improve the nutrition and physical activity levels of the Canterbury population.

A successful application to SPARC's (Sport and Recreation New Zealand's) Active Communities fund by CIPANG in 2005 enabled the three year Canterbury Active Communities Project (now known as Active Canterbury) to commence.

Project goals included the development of this website, which aims to give physical activity providers, health professionals including GP's and Practice Nurses and the general public the tools and information they need for more people in Canterbury to be more active, more often.

Since the project completion late in 2008, the website continues to be maintained and developed by the project partners.

The Active Canterbury Network (formally Push Play with Active Canterbury), is a sub group of CIPANG, whose role it is to support community Physical Activity providers. Training, networking and development are offered to providers, often at no or low cost.
