About UsAbout Us

Active Canterbury is an initiative of the Canterbury Physical Activity and Nutrition Group (CIPANG). The group's goal is to work collectively and collaboratively to improve the nutrition and physical activity levels of the Canterbury population.

A successful application to SPARC's (Sport and Recreation New Zealand's) Active Communities fund by CIPANG in 2005 enabled the Canterbury Active Communities Project (now known as Active Canterbury) to commence. Additional funding continues to come from CIPANG member organisations. A Project Manager was appointed in October 2005 and has been supported by a Steering Group made up of a subgroup of CIPANG organisations.

Active Canterbury aims to give physical activity providers, health professionals including GP's and Practice Nurses and the general public the tools and information they need for more people in Canterbury to be more active, more often.
